Pumpkin field
The red clay soil has been mixed with compost and 70 pumpkin plants planted in 14 groups. Rice straw and half composted oil palm flowers used for mulch.
Bamboo sticks are placed around the plants, so I know where to water, when everything is covered in plants. |

Growing mushrooms
Straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) grown on old oil palm flowers. This is a very delicious mushroom, that we use in many different dishes. My favourite is slicing them in thick slices, add a little butter, put them on a bamboo stick and fry them over charcoal.
The medium with mycelium is added on top of the palm flowers and covered with plastic to keep the humidity and temperature high. |
10 days after the mycelium was added, the first mushrooms starts to show. |
After 13 days we harvest for the first time. |
Mushrooms and mycelium everywhere. |

The vegetable garden
Just a qucik look at the fenced part of the vegetable garden. Even though there should be both wild elephants, bears and tigers in our province, the fence is just to keep the dogs out. They love to dig holes in fresh compost, and I'm not too happy about that.
The main entrance. |
Different herbs, luffa/gourd, cucumbers and mini tomatoes. |
Young coriander, white radish and tree onions. |
Seedlings. The metal mesh is to keep snails from eating everything. |
