Growing mushrooms

Straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) grown on old oil palm flowers. This is a very delicious mushroom, that we use in many different dishes. My favourite is slicing them in thick slices, add a little butter, put them on a bamboo stick and fry them over charcoal.

The medium with mycelium is added on top of the palm flowers and covered with plastic to keep the humidity and temperature high.

10 days after the mycelium was added, the first mushrooms starts to show.

After 13 days we harvest for the first time.

Mushrooms and mycelium everywhere.

Harvesting.

The vegetable garden

Just a qucik look at the fenced part of the vegetable garden. Even though there should be both wild elephants, bears and tigers in our province, the fence is just to keep the dogs out. They love to dig holes in fresh compost, and I'm not too happy about that.

The main entrance.

Different herbs, luffa/gourd, cucumbers and mini tomatoes.

Young coriander, white radish and tree onions.

Seedlings. The metal mesh is to keep snails from eating everything.

Seeds from Denmark

Last summer my family from Denmark visited us here in Thailand, and brought several flower and vegetable seeds. I have tried some of them a few times, without success. We now have the cold season here, and some of the seeds has grown to edible sized plants.

Tree onions (Allium ×proliferum).

Three types of lettuce.

Garden nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus).

Chili (phrik khi nu suan)

My Garden mouse-dropping chilis are doing well, and we have harvested several times for some weeks now. The oldest of the plants are just about two meters high, and look very healthy and happy.

Lots of green chilis on the plants.
Just a few more days and they will start to turn red.

These ones are ready for harvesting.

Even though all the plants is made from seeds from 3 red chilis, this single plant produces white/yellow chilis.

Compost

The picture above shows what the second compost - which was started in the beginning of may - looks like now 3 months later. The first compost I turned several times, but the second one has not been turned, and has decomposed nicely. This will save me a lot of hard work in the future.

The original compost has been emptied and repaired and is now ready for another round.
Filled up again with layers of withered leaves, grass, weeds and compost on top.
